Jul 95 to April 8 2008

He loved playing outside in the snow and chasing snow balls.
Tearing the squeaky thing out of stuffed animals was what he liked about Christmas.
Here is a picture with his feline friends and Eva. Last year we tried to lock him away from the cats while we were on vacation and our pet sitter said he whined until they were all allowed to be together and then he was happy.

Tuesday was a very sad day in the Canby household. We lost a beloved member of our family. We had to have Jake put to sleep. He had been with Aimee and I since right after we were married and was the only dog the kids have ever known. I know everyone always says their dog was the best dog ever, but no dog could ever measure up to Jake. He always had the best temperament of any dog I have ever met. He never ever thought about biting anyone or almost anything (except groundhogs). He always wanted to be with us even to a fault. That was my biggest complaint about Jake ever was the fact he always wanted to be in the same room as us. If that is not man's best friend then I don't know what is.

He was an aggressive sniffer, to the annoyance of some of our friends but eventually he would smell everything he had to and go lie down. He never wanted to be the Alpha dog with any dog. He always wanted to just be friends. He was afraid of baby gates because Aimee crushed him with them after tripping over them on more than one occasion. He liked to chew on linoleum and base boards as a puppy along with the standard things.

I have to thank the Denchy's for bringing "the ferocious dog under their neighbor's porch" into our lives.

Good bye old friend. I know you will be sitting at the gates of heaven waiting on me.
